LASIK Recovery Timeline

People considering LASIK have so many questions: Will it hurt? Will I have perfect vision? Am I a good candidate? What can I expect during recovery? Do I ever have to go back for check ups?

But, as with any surgery, you must be prepared for the follow-up care and the recovery from LASIK. If you choose LASIK to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, here is what you can expect.

While the recovery time from LASIK varies for each patient, most people will see significant improvements in their vision within the first two days. Getting to your ideal vision may take between two and seven days, and full recovery from LASIK may take a few weeks, depending on how well your follow your doctor’s orders:

  • Immediately following LASIK, you will need a ride home because you won’t be able to see clearly enough to drive.
  • You must avoid rubbing your eyes at all times during the time after your LASIK procedure.
  • After about thirty minutes, you may begin to feel some eye irritation as the numbing drops used prior to the surgery wear off.
  • After a few hours, you will want to rest your eyes and take a nap. If you’re not able to sleep, you should at least simply close your eyes and rest for a bit.
  • The day after LASIK surgery, most people are able to return to work. Remember that we said the recovery time varies from patient to patient, so if you feel you need another day to return to work, please trust your instinct and take the extra day, if possible.
  • Within 24 hours of surgery, you will return to our office for your first post-LASIK exam. At this visit, we will check your eyes and vision and discuss any concerns you may have.
  • During the first day post LASIK, you will wear protective eye shields while you sleep, and for the next week you will put in eye drops. You will not be able to wear eye makeup during the first week after LASIK.
  • Your second post-operative visit will take place one week after your LASIK procedure.
  • During the first two weeks following your surgery, you are to avoid hot tubs, whirlpools, and swimming pools.
  • During the month after LASIK, you should refrain from strenuous exercise and contact sports. If you feel the need to do some light exercise, please speak to your LASIK surgeon before doing so. He or she will advise you on what is safe to do following your procedure.
  • In the months and years following LASIK, you will schedule regular eye exams as directed by your LASIK surgeon.

If you have been told that you have astigmatism, you probably have questions. Or, maybe you heard, “a stigmatism.” It’s not a disease of the eye. It is a type of refractive error, like being near-sighted (myopia) or farsighted (hyperopia). Astigmatism affects your vision at all distances, but if it’s mild, you may only notice blurriness at certain distances, or you may not notice it at all. Instead you may experience symptoms of eye strain.

What is Astigmatism?

In astigmatism, your eyeball isn’t perfectly round like a baseball. It is shaped more like a football. Because of the shape, your cornea does not focus light into a single image on your retina. What you see may be blurry, distorted, stretched, or a bit of a double image.

Can People Tell I have Astigmatism by Looking at Me?

No. Even though your eyeball isn’t perfectly round, the difference isn’t noticeable to the naked eye. Other people don’t see it and you can’t tell by just looking at your eyes in the mirror. Most people have some degree of astigmatism.

Why Do I have Astigmatism?

You might have been born with it. It is often an inherited trait. Eye trauma or surgery can be the cause. Kamra Surgery Risks

Although the risks are low, like all types of eye surgery, Kamra surgery comes with some risks including:

Cataract Surgery – The Cost

When you are faced with cataract surgery, one of the many questions that will cross your mind is whether or not you can afford the procedure. While most cataract surgeries are covered by Medicare or private insurance, some are not. The average cataract surgery costs approximately $3,400 per eye. You will have to determine whether you can afford to pay for the surgery out of pocket or with the help of your insurance provider.

What affects the cost of cataract surgery?

There are several variables that affect the cost of cataract surgery. These include:

Medicare

If you’re on Medicare, you may be wondering if the insurance plan will cover the cost of the surgery. In many cases, cataract surgery is performed on people who are aged 65 and over. Medicare covers the surgery to remove the cataracts. However, the cover does not extend to expenses that are not directly related to cataracts.

For example, if you had a condition that is not covered under Medicare before the development of the cataracts, you may choose to have the condition treated during the surgery. However, Medicare May not cover the costs for the additional treatment. In that case, the surgeon may bill separately for the removal of the cataracts.

Cataract removal surgery is covered under Medicare Part B. This covers the fees for the surgeon and the facility. However, the amounts must have been approved by Medicare. You will be responsible for 20% of the cost of the entire procedure plus the deductible.
